Großkrotzenburg

The community Großkrotzenburg is located south of Hanau in the Main- Kinzig- Kreis, Hesse, directly on the Main. About the Municipality borders Großkrotzenburg is known for its swimming lake. Total accounts for about ten percent of the area of the district on water surfaces.

Neighboring communities

Großkrotzenburg bordered to the north by the town of Hanau, in the east on the community Kahl am Main ( Aschaffenburg district ) in the south and west on the community of Hainburg (Kreis Offenbach).

Recreation

The municipality counts Großkrotzenburg the lido Spessartblick. In summer you can here at the 150,000 m² Stretch of free court -West ( also called the United Krotzenburger See) recover. At the lake there is a large lawn that is perfect for sunbathing. The water quality of the lake, together with that of the opposite the State Road 8, located on the Bavarian side lake free court - East of the best lakes in the Lake District Kahler. History

Archaeological finds have a colonization of the United Krotzenburger district since prehistoric ( Bronze Age urn field time Hallstatt period, La Tène period ) out. Coat of arms

The coat of arms consists of two crossed golden keys to a red castle wall on a white background. The keys are a symbol of the two dioceses of Fulda and Mainz, which Großkrotzenburg was associated with over the years. The red wall stands for the Roman past as a fort.

Culture and sights

As an attraction especially the preserved part of the Roman fort is to say, which is a UNESCO world heritage since the summer of 2005. It consists of a corner tower, which is the oldest above-ground Roman building on this side of the Rhine, and a part of the wall of the fort, which connects directly to the tower. In addition, a Roman bridge were found on and in the Main residues, which points to a small model of this bridge on the river Main. The outlines of the former entrance gates to the fort are shown on Church street with cobblestones, so that a picture of the extent of the plant you can make yourself.

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Lawrence was built between 1826-1828 by the architect Julius Eugen Ruhl in classical style and renovated in the years 1997-1998, the tower in 2009.

Museums

The local museum ( see Related links ) is the seat of the Local History Association and tries to map the eventful history of Great Krotzenburgs. It is housed in the old school built in 1894, which is next to the corner tower of the old castle. An exhibition commemorating the witch trials in 1628 by the Archbishopric of Mainz.

Traffic

In the village the country roads meet L3309 and L3308. To junction 44 ( Alzenau -north) of the Federal Highway 45 there are about three kilometers L3308.

The Großkrotzenburg station is located on the Main-Spessart -Bahn Hanau- Würzburg.

Public transport, the traffic circle Society Main-Kinzig (CCG ) ensure, to the Rhine -Main Transport Association.

Long distance routes

The German Limes bicycle path runs through Großkrotzenburg. It follows the Upper Germanic - Rhaetian Limes 818 km from Bad Hönningen am Rhein to Regensburg on the Danube.

Public institutions

The volunteer fire department Großkrotzenburg provides fire protection and general help. The Fire Department currently has 500 members. A youth center is a meeting place for children and adolescents aged 7 to 25 years. It is located on the back of the community center.

Education

In Großkrotzenburg there are two schools, the Scholl Primary School and the private Franciscan High School Cross Castle, which has a national catchment area.

Sports

Großkrotzenburg has a sports stadium, which is owned by the local football club. There is also an indoor pool and a lido.
