Großlittgen

Großlittgen (phonetic transcription in Eifel dialect: " Gruhssleehtchen " ) in the Eifel is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel -Wittlich, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Manderscheid. Großlittgen is a nationally recognized tourist.

History

The place was first mentioned in records in 912 as Lutiaco. 1134/35 Bernard of Clairvaux founded at the location of the Cistercian Abbey Himmerod. During the Napoleonic Wars Großlittgen ran from 1794 under French rule. 1802, the abbey was dissolved. Due concluded at the Congress of Vienna in 1815 contracts the left bank of the Rhine, and thus the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia.

In 1922 the monastery was re-established by Himmerod German Cistercian monks from the Abbey Marienstatt in the Westerwald. Since 1946 it has been part of Rhineland- Palatinate.

The local council in Großlittgen consists of 16 council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 of personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman. The 16 seats are distributed among three groups of voters.

The blazon of the arms is: "Under a silver shield head, is a red cross beams, split by registered wandered golden peak, is a black lion. Gules, a sword in the right, left looped in red two intertwined gold rings "

It was approved in 1987 by the District Government of Trier.
