Grotthuss mechanism

Grotthufi the mechanism described by Theodor Grotthufi indicates that the protons and hydroxide ions move much faster in aqueous solution in an electric field than the other ions. Thus, they have a greater conductivity than other ions.

In this mechanism, it is a chain mechanism: instead of proton transport through the solution bonds and hydrogen bonds are broken and re-established. This makes it possible to fold the bonds and the charge continued to be very fast.
