Group Analytic Society

The Group Analytic Society ( Society of Group Analysis, London) was founded in 1952 by SH Foulkes, Jane Abercrombie, James Anthony, Patrick DeMare, Norbert Elias, Hon WHR Iliffe and ET Marx as a non-profit association that the development of group analysis in both the clinical should explore and promote as well as in the outpatient setting. Getting regular seminars were held by Foulkes himself in 1952. Background

After the Second World War, and after the treatment experiments on soldiers in therapeutic groups in Northfield Hospital near Birmingham, a circle of colleagues met regularly at Foulkes, in order to deepen the understanding of group therapy and to discuss applications.

" The small group of friends and interested people who met every weekend in our house ... that was in fact the pioneer of the Group Analytic Society. The same group, extended by international visitors ( Slavson was one of them ), also served as an official group at the International Congress of Mental Health, which was held in London in 1948. That was the birth of the World Federation of Mental Health. "

The Newsletter Group Analytic Contexts is a direct successor of Group Analysis International Panel and Correspondence ( GAIPAC ), which was founded in 1967 also published by Foulkes, to build an international network. This newsletter eventually became the official organ of the company, according to Foulkes ' death his widow Elizabeth Foulkes, the function of the Issuer.
