Grumbach (Innerste)

Grumbach in the valley above Wild Man

Course

The Grumbach rises to about 640 m above sea level. NN in the Upper Harz southeast of Clausthal when grouse just off route 241 after just a few hundred meters of Grumbach is dammed together with some other unnamed spring-fed streams in the capercaillie pond, a small dam of the Upper Harz Water Regale, which will significantly affect the Grumbach over its entire length. After the Grumbach has left the capercaillie pond over the spillway or through the bottom outlet, followed by a short flow distance of New Grumbacher pond, just beyond the Upper Grumbacher pond, then the Middle Grumbacher pond, then the Upper Flößteich and finally the Lower Flößteich. All six dams are part of the Upper Harz Water Regale ( Upper Harz Ponds ). Due to the cascaded arrangement of these ponds about 2 km long flow path is also called grouse cascade. The direction of flow Grumbaches swings in this course from southwest to the west.

Below the Lower Flößteiches of Grumbach first flows through a meadow land. It is located here in the district of goat meadow, a district of Goslar. Here the Grumbach must pass under a heap of historic Upper Harz mining. When this heap piled up in the 18th and 19th centuries, it has left a tunnel of dry masonry vaults for the Grumbach. Below, ie west of Bock meadow of Grumbach first flows through a wooded area close to nature. By right of Kuttelbach flows added. Shortly after the confluence with the Kuttelbach of Grumbach is diverted into the ditch Grumbacher, a height- line parallel trench slope of the Upper Harz Water Regale (see Oberharzer ditches). This trench has today especially the meaning, Grumbach bypassing the Grumbacher pond, which, however, due to the capacity of the trench completely successful only at low flows. At higher discharges excess water flows over the failures in the direction Grumbacher pond.

At the end of today's active Grumbacher short trench ( west =) below the Grumbacher pond of Grumbach plunges nearly 20 meters in altitude in an impressive waterfall into Grumbach. Here it flows together with the expiration of the Grumbacher pool, which essentially results in the still water of Dreckstalbaches with it. In the following, about 2 km long flow distance of Grumbach is largely to nature through a diverse forest area, the flow direction swings here in the south. At the entrance of Wild man of Grumbach swings back to the right towards the west, at the same time he gets here with the mirror creek a tributary of the left, which can be compared by its size to the Grumbach. In the following one kilometer course through the urban area of Wild Man of the river is called by the savage men Grumbach, the valley, which it flows is, but just like the parallel road leading mirror Thal.

Situated near the center of Wild Man of Grumbach flows in the core.

Water and Geology

The Grumbach has already changed a few hundred meters below the source massively by mining and settlement activities. Migration of, for example Brown trout are thus largely restricted. But the water of Grumbaches is very low in nutrients due to the small settlement influences and of high quality. Brook trout populations there are definately in the Grumbacher ditch and about 3 kilometer course between the Grumbacher pond and the confluence with the core.

The geology of the catchment is dominated by the resin typical alternation of shale and greywacke.
