Grumbach (Werra)

The Grumbach is a 14 km long, orographic right tributary of the river Werra in Thuringia in Germany.

Course

The source runs of Grumbaches drain the south-western slope of the main ridge of the Thuringian Forest at Rennsteig from the Great White Mountain ( 747 m) to the northwest over the Gerber 's Stone ( 728 m) to the Hunchback (702 m).

The roll-call Grumbach arises in Steinbach through the mouth of the creek Kalle from the right in the main source drive Steinbach. Below follows Steinbach Bad Love stone, then the Grumbach flows in a natural bed past the settlement Sorga and the district Meimers, its flow changes direction towards the southwest and flows Grumbach, a district of Breitungen, in the Werra.

Name

The name of the flowing past Grumbach went two times to the locations on: Grumbach as one of two founding places of Bad Love stone and Grumbach as the district of Breitungen at the mouth. The community of Steinbach was also named after the same source stream.

Economic History

The place Steinbach was already in the Middle Ages a center of mining and metal processing. On Steinbach until around 1920 numerous Schleifkoten were operated - for the manufacture of knife blades. The town of Bad Love stone owes its present importance as a health resort in the district of Suerborn ( Sauerbrunnen ) discovered mineral spring.
