Grupo México

Grupo México ( Grupo México SA de CV ) is the largest mining company in Mexico and the third largest copper producer in the world. By Ferrocarril Mexicano subsidiary ( Ferromex ) operates the largest rail network in Mexico. Grupo México is listed on the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores in Índice de Precios y Cotizaciones (IPC).

The company was founded in 1978 as " Grupo Industrial Minera Mexico ." In 1988, the bankrupt state-owned mining operations " Mexicana de Cobre " is adopted. 1990 following the acquisition of the most important copper mines in Cananea and Nacozari. To this end, the company bought another smaller businesses, some coal mines in Coahuila. 1994, the company changes its name to " Grupo Mexico ".

In 2000, the company generated 87.5 % of Mexican copper production. 2004 acquires Grupo México 54.2 % of Southern Peru Copper Corporation. In October 2005 the name changed to Southern Copper Corporation is.

In 1997, the company is leading the acquisition of the concession for railway operations in the northwest and the center of Mexico ( Ferrocarril Mexicano ). In November 2005, in southern Mexico railway company Ferrosur is acquired.
