Guadamur

Guadamur is a Spanish town in the province of Toledo, in the Autonomous Community of Castile -La Mancha.

Location

Guadamur is approximately 15 km ( driving distance ) southwest of Toledo in the historical province of La Mancha; to Madrid, there are over 90 km in a north-easterly direction.

The highest population of 2017 people had Guadamur in 1920.

Economy

Guadamur was the agricultural center of several smaller towns, hamlets and isolated farmsteads. Exclusively operated dryland - Up to about 90 ha of irrigated arable land on which to grow vegetables and melons, is in the Toledo region - as elsewhere in central and southern Spain. History

In the vicinity of the place were traces of Bronze Age and Celtiberian settlements have been found. In ancient Roman times the area was mainly a trade route from south to north and from east to west; Traces of Roman estates ( villae ) were not detected. The Visigoths established in Guarrazar, a modern suburb, a significant settlement, which was taken over and continued after the year 711 of the Muslim conquerors, but - except for a few place names and unlike in Toledo little away - leaving little archaeological usable tracks. On the way to the victorious battle of Las Navas de Tolosa in 1212 attracted the Christian armies through the area, which was secured in the subsequent period through the construction of castles and watchtowers. On the ruins of one of the early fortifications the imposing Castillo was built in the 15th century, which has stood the test of time passes.

Attractions
