The Guangdong Olympic Stadium ( Chinese广东 奥林匹克 体育 中心, Pinyin Guǎngdōng Àolínpǐkè Tǐyù Zhongxin ) is a multifunctional stadium with an athletics track in the Chinese city of Guangzhou in Guangdong Province.

History

Originally, the stadium was intended as the main site for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Ultimately, however, was the Beijing National Stadium, also known as the "Bird's Nest ", built for the games. Opened in 2001, currently offers visitors 80 012 seats; which are covered to 95%. The undulating, curved roof structure is the river of the Pearl River, is located at the Guangzhou modeled.
