Guard Hussars

The Gardehusarregimentet is a regiment of the Danish Army, which is still referred to as a cavalry regiment. Together with the Kongelige Livgarde it is the guard of the Danish royal family. It is thus the British Household Cavalry comparable. The garrison of the regiment is in Slagelse.

Following a restructuring of the Danish army, the regiment in 2001, with the two infantry regiments Sjællandske Livregiment ( Seeländisches Leibregiment ) and Danske Livregiment ( Danish Life Guards ) was combined while retaining its name.

Since the merger, the regiment the world regarded as the oldest existing and still active Hussars. The original Gardehusarregimentet was indeed erected only in 1762, after amalgamation of the regiments mentioned but also the tradition of Zeeland Leibregiment was acquired, its founding year 1612.

Today, the Gardehusarregimentet is a mixed association which is divided into five battalions:

  • I. Battalion: Panzer Grenadiers
  • II Battalion: Panzer Grenadiers
  • III. Battalion: Panzeraufklärer
  • IV Battalion: INTOPS training
  • V. Battalion: Training Association

To parade the regiment wears uniforms patterned after the year 1880.
