Guarinus of Sitten

Guarinus of morals (also Warin or G ( u) arin of Sion, * for 1065 in Pont -à -Mousson in Lorraine; † August 27, 1150 in Saint -Jean- d'Aulps, France) was bishop of Sion.

Life and work

He came from a noble family and was by 1085 a monk in the Benedictine abbey of Molesme. In 1094 he founded together with a group of brothers as a branch of Molesme the sanctuary of Notre -Dame des Alpes d' or Aulps in today belonging to France and then to the County of Savoy Chablais (24 km southwest of Thonon -les- Bains and 9 km north-east of Morzine ) and was from 1113 to 1138 whose Abt 1120 became the monastery by Pope Callistus II independence of Molesme and joined under the influence of Bernard of Clairvaux in 1136 the monastery of Citeaux to, from which the filiation of Clairvaux was founded.

1138 was Garin bishop of Sion and was later venerated as a saint. He is the patron of cattle and protects against animal diseases. His feast day is August 27, his death.
