Guayota

Guayota was the name for an evil demon in the mythology of the Guanches. Guayota lived inside the Teide volcano.

The name " El Teide " originally comes from the language of the Guanches, the original inhabitants of the island, and was originally called " Echeyde ". It is the name for the apartment of the demon Guayota. According to legend, Guayota should have caught the sun god Magec and have held in his apartment. The Guanches then asked their supreme god, Achaman to help. Their request was granted, Guayota was driven out and Magec could back to the sky.
