Guillaume Briçonnet (Bishop of Meaux)

Guillaume Briçonnet (* 1470 in Paris, † January 24, 1534 in Aimans (now Esmans ) in Montereau- Fault-Yonne in Burgundy at that time ) was a reform- minded French bishop.

Life

Guillaume Briçonnet was the son of the cardinal of the same name. As Bishop of Meaux, he took over from 1518 thought of Erasmus and Jacques Lefèvre d'Etaples of. Under the protection of Margaret of Angoulême, he led in his diocese, a church reforms and called Lefèvre 1521 Vicar General.
