Life

Guillaume was the fifth son of Jean Jouvenel and Michelle de Vitry. He bore the title of baron of Traynel, Viscount of Troyes and Seigneur of Marigny. In 1423 he married Genevieve Heron, daughter Macé Herons, a maître des comptes. On June 6, the same year he was named Karl VII Conseiller in the Parlement of Poitiers.

Beaten on July 17, 1429 knighted, he served from 1435 to 1440 as assistant to the governor of the Dauphiné and in the time from 1437 to 1445 as Vogt (French: bailli ) the county Sens.

Until 1445 he served in the army during the Hundred Years War and was responsible for financing the war before him Charles VII appointed that year as chancellor of France. In this role, he led the 1458 trial against John II Duke of Alençon, because of its involvement in the Praguerie.

King Louis XI. released him on July 22, 1461 from the office, but appointed him on November 9, 1465 again as chancellor. From 1468 to 1470 he worked as a Commissaire in the trial of Cardinal Jean de La Balue.
