The Gulf of Tunis (Arabic خليج تونس Bahr al -Tunis ) is a large gulf ( bay ) of the Mediterranean Sea in north- eastern Tunisia. Tunisia's capital Tunis located on the southwestern shore of the Gulf south of Cape Carthage. In the north- east of Tunis are the ruins of Carthage, now a suburb of the capital. The Gulf is bounded in the north- west of Cape Farina ( Ras et Tarf ) to the south lying underneath large lagoon of Garh el Melh, in the north- east of Cape Bon ( Rass Eddar ) to the Mediterranean Sea.
