Torpedo sinuspersici is a ray species from the family of electric ray. It lives mainly in the west of the Indian Ocean, but also along the southeast coast of Africa, the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, in the Andaman Sea, seen off Sri Lanka and the Persian Gulf. It is believed that the type is divided in its wide distribution area into sub- species, more detailed descriptions for their determination are to date not before.

Features

Torpedo sinuspersici has the typical slightly wider than long disc shape his family, and with a length of up to 1.30 meters, a large ray species. Back and tail are pale brown with significantly raised, irregular white or cream-colored spots. It reaches a weight of up to 13 kilograms.

Way of life

Torpedo sinuspersici lives mainly in shallow water over a sandy bottom, often near reefs and feeds on smaller fish.
