Gullveig

Gullveig ( Old Norse Gold Potion, gold rush, gold strength ) is a goddess of Germanic mythology. It belongs to the family of the Vanir.

To Gullveigs duties included herding treasures and magic of Seidr. Thus, they had precognitive abilities ( Germanic seeress ). Gullveig came to the Aesir and brought about the gods, the lust for gold. The gods demanded the secret of the origin of wealth. Gullveig refused this, so that the Aesir burned them three times. ( Edda, Voluspa 25). When the Vanir of this death were told they were angry, and a war broke out between them: the Wanenkrieg.
