Gülşehir

Gülşehir ( Turkish for Rose City), in the ancient world Zoropassos, is a town and a district of the Turkish province of Nevsehir in the Cappadocia region. Gülşehir is located about 20 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital of Nevsehir on the south bank of the Kizilirmak. The town has 12,219 inhabitants, the county 22 722 ( 2013).

Attractions

In the village is the Karavezir Mehmet Paşa Seyyit Külliyesi, a complex of domed mosque, madrasah and utilities. About six kilometers south of St. John's Church is located ( karsi Kilise, St. Jean Kilise ), a rock-hewn church from the 13th century. Three kilometers south you will find the Açıksaray ( Open Palace), a collection of cave churches and monasteries. Through individual findings is demonstrated that the area was already inhabited in Hittite times.
