Gümüşhane is a Turkish city in Anatolia and has 32 ​​444 inhabitants ( 2012). It is the capital of the province Gümüşhane and is located in the eastern Black Sea region to about 1,150 m above sea level. Gümüşhane was founded in the narrow valley of the river Harşit that separates the mountains from the Zigana Gümüşhane Mountains. The name of the city ( " Silver House " ) is probably a transfer of the Greek name Argyroupolis ( " Silver City "). In the surroundings of silver has been mined since ancient times.

Sports

The most famous football team in the city is Gümüshanespor. It was founded in 1995 and initially had the name Gümüşhane Doğanspor because the media tycoon Aydın Doğan had founded the team.
