Günter Deckert (nordic combined)

Günter Deckert ( born September 14 1950 in honor Friedersdorf, † 24 November 2005) was a German nordic combined.

Deckert was in the first half of the 1970s as one of the world's best Nordic combined. He celebrated his first international success in 1970 when he won the title at the Nordic Junior Championships in Gosau. Two years later he traveled as a co-favorite for the Olympic Games in Sapporo. However, a fall in ski jumping medal ended all hopes. Deckert finished at the end of the ninth.

In 1974 he succeeded the biggest success of his career at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun. Behind his compatriot Ulrich Wehling, he won the silver medal in the Nordic combined. In the same year he won at the East German state championships behind Bernd Zimmermann second place. 1976 Deckert joined in Innsbruck again at the Olympics and was 13

After his playing career, he worked as a youth coach. Most recently, he lived in retirement in Ehrenfriedersdorf. Günter Deckert died on 24 November 2005 at the age of 55 years.
