Günter Neuhold

Günter Neuhold ( born November 2, 1947 in Graz) is an Austrian conductor.

Life

Neuhold finished in 1969 his conducting studies at the Graz University of Music. It was followed by two years of perfection with Franco Ferrara in Rome and in Vienna with Hans Swarovsky. From 1972 to 1980 engagements have taken him to various stages of the Federal Republic of Germany, last to Hanover and Dortmund, where he served as first Kapellmeister. After he emerged as winners of various international competitions conductor (including Florence 1st prize, 1976; San Remo, Marinuzzi, 1st prize, 1976; Vienna, Swarowski, 2nd Prize, 1977; Salzburg, Böhm, 1st prize, 1977, Milan, Cantelli, 3rd prize, 1977), he began an international opera and concert career.

In the years 1981-1986 Günter Neuhold was music director at the Teatro Regio in Parma (focus operas by Verdi) and Chief Conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica " Arturo Toscanini ". From 1986 to 1990 he was chief conductor and music director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders in Antwerp, which was under his leadership, an internationally respected ensemble and with which he undertook numerous tours to Germany, Austria, Italy, Great Britain and France. He was from 1989 to 1995 music director of the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe. There, he conducted, inter alia, a Richard Strauss- cycle and the Ring of the Nibelung. From 1995/96 to 2002 he was music director and opera director at the Theater of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. Since 2008 he has been chief conductor and artistic director of the Orquesta Sinfonica de Bilbao.
