Günther Heidemann

Gunther Heidemann (* October 21, 1932 in Berlin, † March 15, 2010 ) was a German boxer. He was winner of a bronze medal at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki in the welterweight division.

Career

Gunther Heidemann began as a teenager in the Neukölln sports fans, a Berlin sports club with a strong Boxabteilung, which, inter alia, Harry Kurschat and later Oktay Urkal belonged, with the boxes. In 1950, he was 18 years old the first time Berlin champion at lightweight. This title he also won in 1951, 1952, 1954 and 1955 in the light welterweight and welterweight weight classes.

In 1951, Gunther Heidemann German vice champion in the light welterweight division. He was defeated in the final battle of the champions Herbert Schilling from Zeilsheim. In 1952, he then won his first German championship title. He defeated in the final of the Neckarsulm Heinrich Rienhardt clear on points. At the Olympic Games Günther Heidemann won welterweight in the preliminary round with a 2:1 vote on Pál Budai from Hungary, defeated in the second round Nicolae Linca from Romania by KO in the 1st round and defeated in the quarterfinals Dutchman Nicolaas Linneman unanimous decision. At the German Championships of 1953 and 1954 Gunther Heidemann was not at the start. In 1955 he was at welterweight for the second time German champion. He won it in the semifinals on Fimpel from Kempten and in the final against Manfred hatred Misburg. The European Championship took place in 1955 in Berlin. Gunther Heidemann had big plans in his home town of course and won his first fight against Joseph Kaczorowski from the GDR, which turned out to be a very strong opponent, just on points. In the next fight he met the Englishman Nick Gargano, who was considered a blank slate. All the more surprising was for Günther Heidemann then the point defeat against Gargano and thus the exit from the tournament without winning a medal. Gargano was also European champion later.
