Gunther O. Hofmann

Life

The study of medicine and physics Hofmann graduated in 1982 at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich with state exam and Doctorate in medicine from. At the Technical University of Munich in 1984 he obtained the diploma in physics and his doctorate in 1987 in physics and biomechanics of artificial knee joints of Doctor of Natural Sciences ( Dr. rer. Nat. ). From 1984 to 1992 Hofmann worked as a research assistant at the Surgical Clinic of the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich, Klinikum Grosshadern, and as a freelancer at the Laboratory for Biomechanics and Experimental Orthopaedics at the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Munich. With the Habilitation in Surgery ( Biodegradable osteosynthesis implants ) 1992 teaching qualification ( venia legendi ) in accordance surgery professor Act ( Bavaria ) was awarded to him.

There was a research stay at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, a teaching hospital of the Medical School of Harvard University and in the same year 1992, he took a job as a senior physician at the Surgical Clinic of the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich. As a surgeon and physicist, he coordinated an interdisciplinary group of employees from different institutes of the Ludwig- Maximilians- University and the College for wood and plastics technology in Rosenheim. In 1995 he moved to the BG Trauma Center Murnau.

Since 2004, Gunther O. Hofmann Medical Director of BG clinics Bergmannstrost Halle ( Saale) and Director of the Department of Trauma, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery, Friedrich-Schiller - University Jena.

Priorities: development of implants for osteosynthesis and arthroplasty, bone and joint transplants, biomaterials, biomechanics, navigated surgical procedure ( computer - assisted surgery CAS) in trauma and orthopedic surgery, infections of bones and joints
