Günther Pape

Günther Pape ( * July 14, 1907 in Dusseldorf, † January 21, 1986 ) was a German officer, most recently Major General of the Wehrmacht and Bundeswehr.

Life

During World War II he commanded the last Panzer Division " Feldherrenhalle " and was at age 37 one of the youngest generals of the Wehrmacht, as in 1944 he was promoted to Major General.

In the army he commanded the Panzertruppenschule Munster, later the 5th Panzer Division and most recently as a major general of the Military District III. In 1966 he was dismissed at his own request as a result of the so-called " union decree ."
