Günther Simon

Günther Simon ( born May 11, 1925 in Berlin, † June 25, 1972 ) was a German actor. He gained fame with roles in several DEFA films.

Life

The son of a banker 's Friedrich Simon attended a private acting school during his time as a high school student. During his time at the Reich labor service he enlisted in August 1943 volunteered to join the paratroopers. In 1943 he joined the NSDAP. During the Allied invasion he was employed in Normandy and was taken prisoner by the Americans, which he spent in a camp in Colorado. He gained his first experiences on stage in that camp theater.

After the war, he took off in 1947 with Karl Meixner at the Hebbel Theatre acting classes. He made his debut at the Stadttheater in Köthen Hurricane Dimitri Tscheglow. 1948 to 1950 he played at the City Theatre Schwerin, where he met his wife, wraparound, a dancer. From 1950 to 1951 Simon was employed at the State Theatre in Dresden, then briefly at the Municipal Theater Leipzig.

In 1951, Simon also received movie roles. Despite his little class typical past life he was selected in 1952 to take over the title role in the lavish two-part film adaptation of the life of Communist leader Ernst Thalmann. Simon coined the cinematographic work decisively and tried personally to correspond to the role shown. He joined the Socialist Unity Party and became a member of the central party leadership of the DEFA studios.

In the years that Simon has always played best socialists, farmers, workers and paternal officials. From the mid- 1960s he played these characters on TV. Occasionally he received but also roles that did not meet this cliché as Lot's wife in the film, where it reacts with incomprehension on the emancipation efforts of his wife or a father Zitterbacke in Alfons Zitterbacke where he could put his comedic skills.

Günther Simon had with his wife Rita, three sons and a daughter.

His tomb is located on the Dorotheenstädtischer cemetery in Berlin.
