Günther Stranner
Günther Stranner ( born April 26, 1967 in Gmünd ) is a former Austrian ski jumper.
Stranner made his debut in the World Cup Ski Jumping in the Four Hills Tournament 1983/84 while jumping on January 4, 1984 in Innsbruck. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1985 in Seefeld in Tirol reached Stranner on the normal hill and 13th in the large hill to the 26th place. In the team competition, he won jointly with Andreas Felder, Armin Kogler and Ernst Vettori the silver medal behind the team from Finland. Shortly after the World Cup took Stranner on February 11, 1985 at the World Youth Championship in Tasch and won the bronze medal in the individual competition on the normal hill there. In the first World Cup competition of the season 1985/86 he succeeded on December 22, 1985 Place 7 on the normal hill in Chamonix for the first time made it into the World Cup points ranking. He repeated several times in the season this success. His best finish of the season he reached the 6th place at the ski flying in Planica. He finished the season with 12 World Cup points in 46th place overall.
In the Ski Flying World Championships 1988 in Oberstdorf, he came as a surprise to 5th place.
At the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988 on the normal and large hill in each case the 20th place and was in the team jumping, together with Ernst Vettori, and Andreas Heinz Kuttin fields fifth.
Four weeks after the Olympics him for the first time succeeded in jumping World Cup at Holmenkollen in Oslo with the 3rd place on the podium. At the end of the season, he finished with 26 points 32nd place in the World Cup overall standings.
In the 1988/89 World Cup season, he was still able to increase its lost a World Cup points the previous season and finished the season which was also his most successful, with 27 points at No. 31 in the World Cup overall standings.
In the following two years Stranner could rarely reach World Cup points and therefore ended after jumping in Bischofshofen on January 6, 1991 his active ski jumping career.
