Gunzenhausen–Pleinfeld railway

The railway line Gunzenhausen Plein - box (also known as Lakeland Railway ) is a 16.8 km long main railway in Bavaria Central Franconia County White Castle -Gunzenhausen. It runs on the southern shore of Lake Brombach Gunzenhausen by Plein field. The name Lakeland train is due to the location in the Franconian Lake District, as the track next to the great and the small Brombachsee also opens up the Altmuehlsee transport links.

History

The route opening took place on 1 December 1849 as part of the Ludwig South - North Railway, after the proposed track alignment on Gunzenhausen -gap Georgensgmuend based on observations from the hops farmers from gap, which were concerned about the quality of their products, has not been realized. With the construction of the line Treuchtlingen - Donauwörth (1906 opened ) lost the section Plein field Gunzenhausen as well as the entire route Plein field Nördlingen Donauwörth important. Traffic was reduced more and more.

Operation

Since 27 September 1992, the track in the regional transport system Nürnberg ( VGN ) is integrated as line R62. The trains wrap today from multiple units of class 642, which run from Monday to Friday every 60 minutes and on weekends every 120 minutes.
