Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Mälikgulyýewiç (Russian Гурбангулы Мяликкулиевич Бердымухаммедов / Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov Mjalikkuliewitsch; born June 29, 1957 in Babarap, Rajon Gökdepe, Province Ashgabat, Turkmen SSR, USSR, now Welaýaty Ahal, Turkmenistan ) is head of the Unity Party of Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, as well as the Heads of State and Prime Minister of his country.
Life
Berdimuhamedov attended the 1979 Stomatological Faculty of the State Medical University of Turkmenistan and closed the subsequent post graduate with the MD ( candidate medicinskich nauk ) from. From 1980 he worked as a dentist. Later he qualified as a professor in Moscow. He speaks not only Turkmen and Russian, but also German.
From 1990 to 1995 he was first assistant at the Department of Therapeutic Stomatology, then lecturer and dean of the dental faculty of the Medical College of Turkmenistan. From 1995 to 1997 he was director of the dental center of the Ministry of Health of Turkmenistan, before he was appointed Minister of Health in 1997.
Policy
Since 2001, Berdymukhamedov was also Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan. He was the personal dentist of the dictatorial ruling Saparmurat Niyazov leaders. In November 2006 he represented Turkmenistan in the CIS summit in Minsk.
When Niyazov died on 21 December 2006, Berdymukhamedov took over the presidency of the Preparatory Commission for the funeral. On the same day, the Security Council of Turkmenistan appointed him as interim successor. From the presidential elections on 11 February 2007 Berdimuhamedov was the winner. On February 14, he was sworn in as the second state and head of government of the country. After taking office, the cult of personality has been reduced by his predecessor. For example, Niyazov is referred to in the English translation of the official press releases, although "founder of the nation", but not more than Turkmenbashi ( Father of the Turkmen ). Even some of the most eccentric decrees Nyýazows were withdrawn after his death, for example in the field of education. Instead Berdimuhamedov appears to be establishing its own personality cult. So he settled on the occasion of his 50th birthday in 2007 give the specially created for him Watan Order ( Order of the Motherland ) and issue commemorative medals with his portrait and an autobiography.
In 2012 he was re-elected with 97.14 percent. Opposition parties were not permitted. Berdymuhamedow competed against seven other candidates.
In April 2013 Berdimuhamedov took part in a horse race. Shortly after he came across the finish line with a distance of two horse lengths first, rushed Berdimuhamedov and lay there unconscious. The guests, among whom were foreign media were then instructed to delete all recordings of the fall. Dozens of people were suspected of smuggling shots out of the arena, were arrested. State television broadcast the race, but did not mention the incident and broke the video shortly after the finish abruptly.
