Gürpınar (Armenian Have- tzor or Հայոց ձոր Hayots - tzor, Kurdish Payîzawa ) is a town and a district in Turkey. It belongs to the province of Van in eastern Anatolia and lies. Gürpınar is located in the south of the province and borders the provinces of Hakkari and Sirnak. The district has 39 645 inhabitants Gürpınar, the city 5,352 (as of 2011 ). Gürpınar is the largest county in the province.

The village was formerly called Kiğzi. This name is derived from the Armenian word for island. The management unit was called in Turkish Avasor. This name is in spite of the Kurdish appearances ( " Red Water " ) of Armenian origin ( Hayots - tzor ), meaning " The Valley of Hayk ". This goes back to the castle Hayk, which is located in the village Cavustepe.

In the district there are the Armenian monastery of Surp Marinos and Hogots that were destroyed by the genocide of the Armenians.
