Guru Har Rai

Guru Har Rai ( Punjabi ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ; born January 16, 1630 Hoshiarpur, † October 6, 1661 in Rupnagar ) was the seventh Guru of the Sikhs. He took this office on March 8, 1644.

Family

Har Rai was the son of Baba and Mata Nihal Kaur Gurdita (also known as Mata Ji Ananti ) and thus paternal grandson of the sixth Guru Har Gobind. In 1697 he married Mata Kishan Kaur (also known as Sulakhni ), with whom he begat sons Baba Ram Rai and Har Krishan Sri.

Life

On the one hand followed Har Rai the principle pacifist orientation of Sikhism. Numerous anecdotes provide about the contrition of the guru, even if he only unintentionally snapped plants branches. On the other hand, led Har Rai continued the military traditions of his grandfather, Har Gobind and kept constantly over 2,000 men under arms. He traveled widely in North India and founded, inter alia, 360 Mission offices of the Sikh ( Manji ). Another focus of his work was the fight against corruption.
