Gustaf af Geijerstam

Gustaf af Geijerstam ( born January 5, 1858 in Heds; † March 6, 1909 in Stockholm) was a Swedish writer and representative of the Swedish naturalism.

Geijerstam came from a wealthy family; his father owned an iron factory. He studied at Uppsala University and then worked as a journalist and later as the Head of Publishing in Stockholm.

Together with the later literary critic Oscar Levertin he already met while studying, Geijerstam was an important member of the literary society Det Hungarian Sverige (Eng. The young Sweden). As such, turned Geijerstam, influenced by August Strindberg, against the conservative tendencies just in the literature.

In his literary work Geijerstam often thematized problems between simple country life and incipient industrialization.

At the age of 51 years died Gustaf af Geijerstam on March 6, 1909 in Stockholm.
