Manteuffel, that his political views in the meantime did not allow him to remain in government service; he must wait for a time when another minister derive the judiciary. Then he went to Frankfurt, soon to America on behalf of a company that wanted to buy up land in California. In San Francisco arrived, he lost everything and was left with nothing. He collected 70 settlers from various nations around, over which he posed as chief and now founded an independent principality, where he lived as an autocrat.
