Gustav Püttjer

Gustav Püttjer ( born May 15, 1886 in Altona, † August 11 1959 in East Berlin ) was a German actor.

Life

The beast tamer traveled with the circus Hagenbeck five years through European countries and subsequently toured with a predator number in vaudeville, where he performed seven lions and a polar bear. Then he became an actor and had his first engagement end of 1911 in Cologne.

He was at first mainly in vernacular pieces on the stage and came over Gelsenkirchen Berlin in 1920. The Café Metropol he was approached by a manager, who gave him his first small film role. From 1928 Püttjer was one of the busiest retail and supporting cast of the German film, embodied mainly ordinary people from the people. Occasionally, he also worked as a manager.

After the war Püttjer worked mainly for DEFA. Apart from the new comedy House of the West, he also worked for Bertolt Brecht's Berliner Ensemble.
