Gustave Garcia

Gustave García ( born 1 February 1837 in Milan ( Italy), † June 12, 1925 ) was an Italian opera singer ( baritone) and a singing teacher.

Life

Gustave García was a son of the famous singing teacher Manuel Patricio Rodríguez García (1805-1906) and soprano Eugénie Mayer ( 1818-1880 ). He made ​​his debut in 1860 at Her Majesty's Theatre in London as Don Giovanni. Later, he appeared in the same role in Milan, where the piece for 32 years had not been played.

The second part of his career began in 1880 with his appointment as professor of singing at the Royal Academy of Music, where he worked for ten years. He taught also at the Guildhall School of Music from 1883 to 1910 and since 1884 at the Royal College of Music until his illness.

Gustave García was the father of the baritone Alberto García ( 1875-1946 ).
