Gustavo Bergalli

Gustavo Bergalli ( born December 14, 1940 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine trumpeter and bandleader of the jazz world.

Life and work

Bergalli, the younger brother of criminologists Roberto Bergalli, received from the age of twelve trumpet lessons. He played first, influenced by Louis Armstrong, traditional jazz, and then belonged to the band of Gato Barbieri and Quinteplus. In 1975, he moved to Stockholm, where he worked for the next thirty years. He led his own quintet, was a member of the Stockholm Jazz Orchestra and has performed with the Swedish Radio Jazz Group, Bob Brookmeyer, Bob Mintzer, Jim McNeely, Joe Lovano, Jimmy Heath, John Scofield, Phil Woods and Hank Jones. He also played with the orchestra of Michel Legrand and the UMO Jazz Orchestra. With Klaus Ignatzek and with Florian Poser He toured Central Europe. Since 2002 he is back in his native city, where he with his own Rio de la Plata Group deals with the fusion of tango, folklore of the Río de la Plata and jazz and performing with the Buenos Aires Jazz Quartet. He can also be heard on albums by Paquito D' Rivera, Pablo Aslan, Jean -Louis Rassinfosse and Carlos Francetti.
