Gustavo Dudamel

Gustavo Adolfo Dudamel Ramírez ( born January 26, 1981 in Barquisimeto, Venezuela ) is a Venezuelan conductor and violinist and is considered a " symbol of a unique classical enthusiasm in his country. "

Life and work

Dudamel's musical education began very early as part of the Sistema de Orquestas Juveniles de Venezuela ( " El Sistema " ), a nationwide program to promote the musical education of children and youth. With ten years Dudamel began to study the violin, and later composition. When he first deputy, conducted the youth orchestra in his hometown of twelve years, his talent was quickly discovered and Dudamel encouraged to study conducting. At the age of 18 he was appointed in 1999 as chief conductor of the Sinfónica de la Juventud Venezolana Simón Bolívar, the Venezuelan state youth orchestra.

2004 Dudamel won the first Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. In 2006 he recorded his first CD for German Grammophon. Since the 2007/ 08 season is Dudamel principal conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra since the 2009/10 season (October 3, 2009) he also has the conducting the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra held ( 1 Conductor and Music Director ).

2006 Gustavo Dudamel married his longtime girlfriend.

On 16 April 2007 he conducted on the occasion of the 80th birthday of Pope Benedict XVI. in the Vatican, a concert with the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra. The program included works by Antonín Dvořák, Giovanni Gabrieli and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

2008 Dudamel conducted with great success for the first time the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra at their annual summer concert at the Berlin forest stage. In the same year he was awarded the Würth Prize of Musical Youths Germany.

2009 Dudamel was awarded the awarded during the Dresden Music Festival SAECULUM - Glashütte Original Music Festival Prize.
