Gustavo Matamoros

Gustavo Matamoros ( * 1957 in Caracas ) is a Venezuelan composer.

Life

Matamoros lives in the U.S., where he is festival for experimental music since 1989 artistic director of the Subtropics. Since 1996 he leads he had founded interdisciplinary Sound Arts Workshop.

Matamoros is best known for his band SEE, in which work mainly with hand saws. In addition, Sam Ashley is one of its partners, with whom he performed in Germany. He also worked among others with Alison Knowles, Fred Lonberg -Holm, Lou Mallozzi, Malcolm Goldstein, Russell Frehling, Jacqueline Humbert, Shahreyar Ataie, David Manson, Charles Recher, Helena Thevenot, Dinorah Rodriguez, Davey Williams and Jan Williams.

Among his intermedia works, solo performances find objects, sound installations, sound and videos radiophonic work. His portraits ( Retratos ) in which it processes originating from the portrayed person sound material were known. Among other things, he twice received the National Prize for Composition vernezolanischen.
