Guttorm Guttormsen

Guttorm Guttormsen ( born June 28, 1950 in Mo i Rana ) is a Norwegian jazz saxophonist, clarinetist, and flautist, arranger and composer.

Guttormsen played in a band of his hometown, before he went to Oslo in 1969 to study music. He played flute in the band there by Ivar Antonsen, with which he appeared in 1971 at the Music Festival of Harstad.

1971 moved to Skien Guttormsen. There he became musical director of the Ibsen Theatre. He led a big band for several years together with Per -Kristian Ekholt, also from 1972 to 1974 his own quartet, which, inter alia, Belonged Per Høglend and Bjørn Kjellemyr.

From 1974 to 1980 Guttormsen led a quartet with young jazz musicians from Oslo, with whom he performed at the festivals in 1975 and 1979 in Kongsberg. With the drummer Espen Rud, bassist Carl Morten Blix and pianist Brynjulf ​​he took in 1975 on the LP Soturnudi. After the occupation of the group changed several times: Rud was replaced first by Tom Olstad then by Jørgen Næss, Blix by Jon Balke, then by Lars Jansson and Erling Aksdal, finally, by Rune Klakegg. In addition Guttomsen played in band Per Høglends ( 1976-77 ) and worked with Lars Klevstrand. In 1979 he received the Buddy Award.

From 1984 to 1988 he was a member of the Per Husby Dedication Orchestra, with whom he recorded in 1985. In 1993, he played recordings with the Trio de Janeiro and in the context of the show Norsk Utflukt at Kongsberg Festival a. As a bandleader, he played in 1999 with the North Norwegian Quartet recordings, which appeared in 2001 on the album Distant reports.
