Weißaugenmuräne ( Gymnothorax thrysoideus )

The Weißaugenmuräne ( Gymnothorax thrysoideus ) lives in the tropical Indo-Pacific from Christmas Island to French Polynesia to the north to the Ryukyu Islands, throughout Micronesia and south to Tonga. It is common and mainly inhabited shallow lagoons, inshore reefs, reef flats oceanic islands, tidal pools, seaweed and seagrass beds at depths of 0.2 to 30 meters. Also in shipwrecks they encountered regularly.

The Weißaugenmuräne is 65 inches long. Their color is yellowish to gray-brown, the eyes are white. On the vomer teeth are in two rows. They differ from the first three to four teeth, which are in a row.

Weißaugenmuränen live in pairs, often in small groups with other dogs or with other morays. In rare cases up to 50 moray eels can live together.
