Gyula, Hungary
Gyula [ ɟulɒ ] ( German: German - Jula, Romanian: Giula ) is a town in Békés county, Hungary, near the Romanian border, with 32,016 inhabitants ( 2008). The city is for the Romanian minority in Hungary is of great importance, as well as a Romanian Lyceum is located here.
The origins of the town date back to the year 1313, where a monastery Gyulamonostor (Latin Julamonustra ) was mentioned. Presumably, the name goes back to a prince of the same name, who founded the monastery and settlement.
