H I region

HI areas (pronounced: ha one) are interstellar clouds of atomic, non- ionized hydrogen and molecular hydrogen (H2). The neutral atomic hydrogen emits the characteristic 21- cm line. By observing these microwave radio astronomy can explore the large-scale structure of the Milky Way.

Contrast, there are H II regions of ionized hydrogen.
