H. Joel Deckard

Huey Joel Deckard ( born March 7, 1942 in Vandalia, Illinois) is an American politician. Between 1979 and 1983 he represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Joel Deckard attended the public schools in Mount Vernon (Indiana). Between 1962 and 1967 he studied at the University of Evansville. Thereafter he served until 1972 in the National Guard of the State of Indiana. Since 1959 he worked there and in Illinois in the radio and television industry. From 1974 to 1977 he was a board member of the Illinois - Indiana TV Association, a cable television company. Deckard also founded his own company that was involved with the planning and construction of energy -efficient homes and offices on solar base.

Politically, Deckard joined the Republican Party. Between 1976 and 1974 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Indiana. In the congressional elections of 1978 he was in the eighth election district of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of David L. Cornwell on January 3, 1979. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1983 two legislative sessions. In 1982 he was not re-affirmed.

After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives Joel Deckard moved to Florida, where he worked in Tallahassee in the computer department of Citibank. At that time he joined the Reform Party of Ross Perot. In 2000, he ran unsuccessfully for his new party for the U.S. Senate. He only came to 0.3% of the vote.
