H. John Heinz III

Henry John Heinz III ( born October 23, 1938 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, † April 4, 1991 in Montgomery, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician ( Republican), who represented the state of Pennsylvania in both houses of Congress.

Heinz was a great-grandson and heir of Henry John Heinz, founder of the food company HJ Heinz Company. He was married to Teresa Simoes Ferreira, the wife of John Kerry was after his death.

After graduating from Phillips Exeter Academy, Yale University and Harvard Business School, he went in 1963 to the United States Air Force. From 1971 to 1976 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States, then he was elected U.S. Senator. In 1982 and 1988 he succeeded each re-election, said he invested considerable amounts of money every time in his campaign.

Heinz died in a crash of his private plane in which six other people were killed. His plane had problems with the landing flaps and a helicopter had risen to investigate this problem. In this case, the two aircraft collided and crashed to a school where two children playing were killed.

A school and several research institutions are named after Heinz.
