H. L. Carnahan

Herschel L. " H. L. " Carnahan ( born August 31, 1879 in Aledo, Illinois, † March 31, 1941 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American politician. Between 1928 and 1931 he was Deputy Governor of the State of California.

Career

In 1896, H. L. Carnahan graduated from Monmouth College in his home state of Illinois. After a subsequent law degree in 1904 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. In 1920 he was an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention, was nominated at the Warren G. Harding as their presidential candidate. In the meantime he had moved to California, where he held several local offices.

Following the resignation of Lieutenant Governor Buron Fitts Carnahan was appointed to succeed him. He had between 1928 and the end of the regular term of office in 1931, held the post. He was Deputy Governor CC Young and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1931, Carnahan was Building and Loan Commissioner of his state. Otherwise, he practiced as a lawyer again. He died on March 31, 1941 in a Los Angeles hospital from a gunshot wound he had taught himself.
