Ha Ilji

Haïlji ( May 3, 1955 in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk -do) is a South Korean writer.

Life

Haïlji, real name in Chong -ju, was born on May 3, 1955 in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk -do. He studied creative writing at the Chung- Ang University. From 1980 to 1983 he worked as a high school teacher. In 1983 he went to France to educate yourself. At the University of Poitiers, he received his Master degree in French literature. His doctorate in the same subject, he graduated from the University of Limoges. In 1989 he returned to Korea.

He is a professor of creative writing at the Dongduk Women's University.

His first novel, The road to the racetrack ( 경마장 가는 길 ) Haïlji published in 1990. The controversial work brought him quick recognition, not only in a positive sense. The novel is about a Korean intellectual who has lived several years in France, has become accustomed to this Western culture, and now returns to South Korea. It is discussed how difficult he finds it again in the Korean society einzufinden and that he developed a critical attitude towards the behavior and customs. Over the next three years Haïlji published four more novels, For the race track, race track at an intersection, alder tree at the track and what happened on the track. All Shook the Korean literary world to represent their unique, innovative approach contradictions in Korean life. Conservative critics circles led a series of fierce debate, which is known as " racetracks controversy ". Haïljis later works are characterized inter alia by dreamy atmosphere and secured him an enthusiastic readership.

In 2009, Republic Užupis was published a fictional novel about Lithuania. Haïlji has visited Lithuania several times and be inspired by the capital. 2013, the book was translated into Lithuanian. The special relationship of the author to Lithuania is also reflected in the long friendship with the Lithuanian poet Kornelijus Platelis.

Many of Haïljis plants were used for films or plays. This writer is also awarded an important role in the development of modern Korean cinema. Furthermore Haïlji is in the field of poetry and has worked his works not only published in Korean, but also in English ( Blue meditations of the clocks ) and French ( Les hirondelles dans mon tiroir ).
