Geography

Haag is located in the west of the Most district in Lower Austria's Alpine foothills. 15.79 percent of the area of the municipality is forested.

History

In ancient times, the area was part of the Roman province of Noricum. 1032 is the consecration of the Church of Hague by the Bishop of Passau, Berengar occupied, this is the first documentary mention of the place name. 1282 occurs the first mention of the castle Salaberg. In the core Austrian state of Lower Austria lying the place informed the eventful history of Austria. 1932 was the city survey. In 1938 the separate communities Haag and Haag were combined into one large village.

Demographics

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 5,170 inhabitants. In 1991, the municipality of 5,146 inhabitants in 1981 and 5,097 in 1971, 5,060 inhabitants.

Religions

Hague is the seat of a Roman Catholic parish and an evangelical branch of Amstetten. The parish celebrated its 975th anniversary in 2007.

  • Baroque Bath House: The Salaberg to the castle belonging baroque bathhouse, however, can be visited.
  • Lower Austrian Open Air Museum presents about 20 objects (old building), predominantly from the musts district.
  • Most District Museum: The Most district museum displays numerous articles on the subject of wine, box, business, flax processing, bee-keeping, old living culture, etc
  • Tierpark Stadt Haag: with more than 80 domestic and exotic animal species. Open year-round zoo is located in the park of Schloss Salaberg Eduard Petzold.

  • Theatre Summer Hague: Director Gregor Bloéb; place since 2000 annually Theatre Summer Hague; is played in the main square on the temporary grandstand theater Hague; designed by nonconform architecture, spectacular red temporary grandstand has won many awards.
