The hackers Bridge is a road bridge in Munich. Takes you over the railway tracks leading up to the Munich main train station.

Description

The arch bridge has six curved beams with a span of 28.4 m, the arc height is just under eight meters.

Location

The hackers bridge connects the Landsberger Strasse in the West End district of the south with the Arnulf Street north of the track apron Munich Central Station and so with the former Champ de Mars in the Maxvorstadt. The access road to both ends of the bridge is called Grasserstraße. The bridge itself is located in the district of Louis suburb.

History and Technology

The hackers bridge was built in 1890-1894 by the Maschinenfabrik Augsburg -Nürnberg and is one of the few remaining steel arch bridges of the 19th century in Germany. During World War II it was partially destroyed and reconstructed in 1953. A thorough restoration was carried out 1983-1984, the structure was not changed in this case. The bridge is a so-called bow- string bridge, the roadway is suspended from the truss arches which rest on the bridge piers. The Horizontalzugkräfte occurring at the sheets are picked up by a extending to about head height of tie.

The predecessor of today's bridge was completed in 1870 autumn road bridge in simple iron truss structure just east of today's hackers bridge. Previously here was a level equal level crossing.
