Hadaftimo

Region

( Also written Hadaftimo ) Hadaaftimo is a place and a district in the Sanaag region in northern Somalia with about 2400 inhabitants, who belong mostly to the Somali clan of Wars Angeli, a family clan of Harti Darod.

The area is claimed by both the de facto independent Somaliland, and by the de facto autonomous Puntland.

History and Politics

The roots of the settlement date back centuries, and the city has archaeological sites and historic buildings. These stocks are mainly in decay.

The place part of the core area of the formerly very influential and existing between the 13th to the 19th century Warsangali Sultanate. The grandson and heir of the last reigning Sultan, ' Siciid Sultan Abdisalaan ' considered the city today as his seat

The ' Declaration of Hadaaftimo '

In 1989, before the outbreak of the Somali civil war, rebels occupied the Somali National Movement the place. Through active support of the population, however, the Somali army Hadaaftimo could quickly bring back under their own control. Four years later, after two years of civil war, a conference was held in the city, at the leading Wars Angeli and Sultan Abdisalam were involved. The result was a promise that the Wars Angeli no organizations or autonomous administrations recognize, but will always adhere to the unity of Somalia.

Maakhir

Between 2007 and 2009 counted Hadaaftimo for autonomous part of State Maakhir, with its creation of Wars Angeli clan wanted to take over the management of the site itself, because without a functioning central government, the state administration had collapsed years ago and also to make it clear that the region continues at the thought will hold a joint Somali state and is not willing to work as part of Somaliland to its struggle for independence. February 2008 there was a siege of Hadaaftimo by troops from Somaliland, however, withdrew again before the arrival of armed defenders.

Situation today

The membership is now ( October 2012 ) difficult to assess. In early 2009 Maakhir officially joined to the autonomous republic of Puntland. However, Somaliland has never given up its claims and in the meantime the Northland State of Somalia or Khaatumo State of Somalia was proclaimed, with territorial claims to the south, but also reach deep into the administration Sanaag region.
