Hadassah

Hadassah (after the Hebrew word for myrtle, also name of Queen Esther ) is a company incorporated in 1912 by Henrietta Szold Zionist women's organization in the United States. It is committed in particular for health care in Israel and for the empowerment of women. In Israel, Hadassah supports Hadassah Medical Organization own.

The organization built the Hadassah Hospital on Mount Scopus in the east of Jerusalem. This mountain was until 1967 an Israeli enclave in Arab / Jordanian territory in East Jerusalem. On April 13, 1948 one month before the founding of the State of Israel, a supply convoy was attacked on the way to hospital. The British army intervened only after six hours. In this raid 77 Jewish doctors, nurses and patients were killed. Subsequently, the hospital was moved to En Kerem in West Jerusalem. The original hospital on Mount Scopus was only reopened in 1967.

Hadassah Hospital is home to the on-site synagogue, the famous twelve windows by Marc Chagall, representing the 12 tribes of Israel.

Today, the hospital is one of the leading hospitals in the Middle East. It is funded entirely by donations and health services provided. The motto of the hospital is: "Building a better world through medicine" ( through medicine build a better world ). True to this motto is Hadassah Hospital all people of the region open, regardless of religion, gender, or nationality. Hadassah Hospital is a university hospital, research is being conducted on the way in many areas.
