Hadramphus

Hadramphus (synonym: Karocolens ) is a genus of four flightless beetles of the weevil family.

Its distribution is restricted to New Zealand and some offshore islands. The type species Hadramphus spinipennis was determined in 1911 by Thomas Broun. Hadramphus pittospori described in 1987 by Guillermo Kuschel within the new genus Karocolens. In 1999, the genus Karocolens by Robin Craw synonymised with the genus Hadramphus. Hadramphus tuberculatus tuberculatus was described in 1877 by Francis Polkinghorne Pascoe Lyperobius 1971 and transferred on cuddle in the genus Hadramphus. The fourth type Hadramphus stilbocarpae was described in 1971 by Kuschel. All four Hadramphus species are relatively large with a body length varying from 11.7 to 23 mm. They are mainly dark brown and characterized by triangular or round tubercles on the top and the sides.

Species and their distribution

  • Hadramphus spinipennis occurs on the Chatham Islands.
  • Hadramphus stilbocarpae is Breaksea of Iceland, Iceland resolution and Puysegur Point ( in the region Fiordland ), the islands of Iceland Bird and Big South Cape Iceland known in the area of Stewart Iceland and from the sub-Antarctic islands snare.
  • Hadramphus pittospori lives on the Poor Knights Islands.
  • The Knollige New Zealand Weevils Hadramphus tuberculatus is the rarest Hadramphus type. It is limited to the Burkes Pass to the Canterbury Plains and reserve was 1922-2004 as extinct.
